Is Tyler still affordable?

I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider -Tyler sits at 375.3 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I wrong here? Thanks for reading.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 55, moved here 7 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in South and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The job market situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Atlanta it's underrated.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The cost of living is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Bought a house here in 2020 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The public transit is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 1 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Downtown area are solid. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The weather scene is decent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in consulting. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Denver about 11 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..
