Living in Tyler -the reality

Hello, My family moved here when I was a kid. The median home value here is around $216,400, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 108K, Tyler is a mid-size city. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Riverside for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The job market scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 3 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much pricey but now it's solid.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I love the pace of life here.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely tough and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Old Town) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I work in engineering here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is improving. Happy to answer more specific questions..
