Raising a family in Tyler -thoughts?

Hello, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Tyler sits at 375.3 per 100K. Rent is about $1,199/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Low crime in most areas
- Strong sense of community
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions
- Far from major airports
Has anyone dealt with this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Bought a house here in 2017 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The weather is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 1 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
