Raising a family in Tyler -thoughts?
Hello, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Tyler sits at 375.3 per 100K. Rent is about $1,199/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.
Pros:
- Friendly people
- Low crime in most areas
- Strong sense of community
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions
- Far from major airports
Has anyone dealt with this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.
