It's a a small town city with about 3,635 people. You can expect to pay around $776 for rent here. Poverty rate is 13.3%, which is around average. Homes are going for about $182,000 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 13 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from San Francisco about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Good luck with whatever you decide..
