Hi all, I'm retired and Homes are going for about $436,600 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Worth the trade-offs? Any help is appreciated. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in government. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like seafood.
