Is Ukiah still affordable?
Anyone else feel this way? We have two kids and Poverty rate is 10.7%, which is around average. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Ukiah sits at 679.1 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good.
Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Lots of new development
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions
What would you do? Appreciate any input. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to.
