Born and raised here. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $2,713/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I'm a accountant and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Highland for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- The community vibe scene is tough
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..
