First post here. With a population of 68,141, Union City is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $2,713 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I overthinking this? Thanks! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 10 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Portland about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.
