Is Union City still affordable?

OK so Homes are going for about $223,100 on average. It's a a smaller city city with about 27,300 people. The median home value here is around $223,100, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $1,213/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Limited cultural events
What would you do? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in engineering. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- The food scene scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
