So, I'm retired and With a population of 66,375, Union City is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 5.8%, which is about average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Came here for work and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The safety is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Highland. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like sushi.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much wild but now it's pretty good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Austin about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..
