Starting a business in Union Point?

Curious what people think. I'm a 38-year-old project manager and It's a a small town city with about 1,745 people. Median household income is $58,487, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 9.5%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $84,600, which is actually reasonable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 37, moved here 13 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Highland and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The job market situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 12 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in East for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Close to major attractions
- The healthcare scene is solid

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.
