Pros and cons of Uniondale after 9 years

First post here. Military spouse here. With a population of 33,637, Uniondale is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 5.3%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to.

I work in tech here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is average. Hope this helps!.

I'm a data analyst and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

I work in hospitality here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is pretty good. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 58, moved here 7 years ago from New York. I've lived in Pine Hills and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The nightlife situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
