Hey, Crime rate is something to consider -University at Buffalo sits at 163.6 per 100K. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this?

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Diego about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
