Been living here since 2006. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Upper Grand Lagoon sits at 921.9 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
- The dating scene scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Riverside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- The cultural scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (North) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
