Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $681,000 on average. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Household incomes average around $181,364 in Upper Nyack. Poverty rate is 5.7%, which is pretty low. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I wrong here? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely underrated and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Old Town) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Indian.
No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Baltimore it's hit or miss.

Bought a house here in 2015 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
