Anyone else feel this way? Rent is about $1,783/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider — Urban Honolulu sits at 232.1 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Am I wrong here?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Miami about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..
