What surprised you most about Urban Honolulu?

Homes are going for about $834,100 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Worth the trade-offs? The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for weather and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The traffic is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Highland area are excellent. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much manageable but now it's challenging.
