Worst things about Urban Honolulu nobody talks about
I work in government and Median household income is $85,428, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 75°F, so it's warm year-round. The city has invested a lot in new development. What do you all think? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Seattle about 4 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is tough.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 7 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
