Is Urbandale worth it salary-wise?

Hi all, Born and raised here. It's a a smaller city city with about 46,026 people. Median household income is $113,086, which feels pretty solid for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 7 years. Moved from San Francisco for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Bugs and humidity in summer. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Greenfield area are tough. Kids love it here.

Came here for weather and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The food scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great farm-to-table places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 8 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
