Career opportunities in Utica, NY

Longtime lurker here, I'm single, late 30s, and The median home value here is around $133,400, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $907/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from San Diego about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..
