Quick question about Utica

So, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $907/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Worth the trade-offs? It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Phoenix about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is solid.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in retail. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Hope this helps!.
