Is Uvalde good for remote workers?

I'm a college student here and Household incomes average around $50,967 in Uvalde. With a population of 15,344, Uvalde is a small town. Poverty rate is 24.8%, which is higher than I expected. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Appreciate any input. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I've been in East for 9 years. Moved from San Francisco for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is decent - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Can feel isolated. And healthcare can be frustrating.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Baltimore about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is improving.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
