What surprised you most about Uvalde?

Hey, I relocated for work and It's a a small town city with about 15,344 people. The median home value here is around $131,600, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $1,013/month for a decent place. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Vietnamese places. I love the pace of life here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely average and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (North) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (West) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much established but now it's better than expected.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 5 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
