What's it really like living in Uvalde?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but The weather takes some getting used to. Worth the trade-offs?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Italian.

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in South area are decent. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
