Vacaville vs Austin -which is better?

Random thought, I'm a college student here and It's a a mid-size city city with about 102K people. Crime rate is something to consider -Vacaville sits at 327.3 per 100K. With a population of 102K, Vacaville is a mid-size city. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Came here for work and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The school system is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- The healthcare scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..
