The good and bad of living in Valdosta

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $165,300 on average. It's a a smaller city city with about 55,222 people. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Close to nature
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I've lived in South for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- The safety scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
