Valdosta in the winter -how bad?

Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and Rent is about $1,000/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $165,300 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I wrong here? Thanks for reading. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Hope this helps!.

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great BBQ places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Pittsburgh it's challenging.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in North for 3 years. Moved from Raleigh for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is average - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Property taxes are high. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
