OK so Rent is about $2,013/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $2,013 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Salt Lake City it's average.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 12 years. Moved from Seattle for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited public transit options. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely underrated and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Westside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much growing but now it's tough.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
