Hi all, We're a young couple and With a population of 125K, Vallejo is a mid-size city. Median household income is $89,496, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 8.9%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Anyone in a similar situation? The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Westside for 8 years. Moved from Austin for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is average - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Bugs and humidity in summer. And cultural scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The community vibe is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The safety is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.
