Rent in Valley Falls getting crazy

First post here. My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Valley Falls sits at 965.7 per 100K. Homes are going for about $229,600 on average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 14 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is pretty good.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Bought a house here in 2019 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
