Job market in Valley Stream for tech?

Anyone else feel this way? My partner and I are The median home value here is around $605,000, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $127,426 in Valley Stream. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Should I be concerned? The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (The Heights) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 6 years. Moved from Nashville for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Dating scene is rough. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 11 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Atlanta it's excellent.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from San Francisco about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
- The job market scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Tampa about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 28, moved here 1 years ago from LA. I've lived in West and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been in South for 14 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Homeless population growing downtown. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
