What to expect moving to Valley Stream?

Longtime lurker here, We're a young couple and Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Worth the trade-offs?

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much competitive but now it's solid.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Fairview area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely average and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The housing market is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
