Random thought, I'm single, late 20s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Valparaiso sits at 108.1 per 100K. Homes are going for about $250,500 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services.
