Pros and cons of Valparaiso after 11 years

So, I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 34,377, Valparaiso is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $67,664 in Valparaiso. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a smaller city city with about 34,377 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good job market
- Diverse community
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Not very walkable
- Boring for young people
- Limited cultural events
- Not enough green space
Let me know your thoughts. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely underrated and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (North) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
