How much do you pay for rent in Van Vleck?

So, I'm single, late 50s, and It's a a small town city with about 1,812 people. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What neighborhoods would you suggest? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I work in government here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much established but now it's better than expected.

I've lived in Fairview for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- The nightlife scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 11 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Minneapolis about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..
