Longtime lurker here, Household incomes average around $78,156 in Vancouver. It's a a mid-size city city with about 193K people. Average temperature is around 53°F, so expect cold winters. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thoughts? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 7 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Austin about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
