Moving to Vandalia -what should I know?

Hi all, With a population of 15,100, Vandalia is a small town. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. What do you all think? Appreciate any input.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The safety is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from New York about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
