Starting a business in Vandergrift?

Hello, I'm a teacher here and The weather takes some getting used to. Is this normal for Vandergrift?

I'm a social worker and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Asian places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 44, moved here 3 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Oak Park and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The outdoor recreation situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 8 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Cedar Grove. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The job market scene is tough

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much developing but now it's average.
