Been meaning to ask this. The unemployment rate is 6.6%, which is concerning. Average temperature is around 80--F, so it's warm year-round. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I'm a chef and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much stable but now it's decent.

Came here for work and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Sunset) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in retail. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..
