What to expect moving to Venice?

Alright, Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 1.0%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,591/month for a decent place. Median household income is $74,340, which feels about average for the area. With a population of 26,467, Venice is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $74,340 in Venice. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 31, moved here 14 years ago from Boston. I've lived in North and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. improving vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
