Anyone regret moving to Vermilion?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Median household income is $73,052, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $172,000 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Vermilion sits at 19.2 per 100K. Poverty rate is 4.1%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Should I be concerned? Any help is appreciated. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (West) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Dallas about 10 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is improving.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
