Hey, Been living here since 2013. Rent is about $1,123/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Vermilion? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 47, moved here 1 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Pine Hills and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The housing market situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 13 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
