I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 9 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Chicago about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is tough.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Hope this helps!.
