Biggest downsides of living in Vernon Hills?

Hey everyone, Crime rate is something to consider -Vernon Hills sits at 67.1 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,855/month for a decent place. Median household income is $120,625, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Diverse community
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Boring for young people
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
- Not enough green space
What neighborhoods would you suggest? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Downtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in engineering. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
