Best kept secrets of Vero Beach South, FL
First post here. We have two kids and With a population of 29,365, Vero Beach South is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 5.5%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
Pros:
- Good job market
- Close to nature
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
Cons:
- Not very walkable
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people
- Not enough green space
Am I wrong here? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.
