So, I'm originally from San Diego and Homes are going for about $295,500 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Vero Beach South sits at 440.9 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Anyone in a similar situation?

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Tampa it's improving.

Came here for weather and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The traffic is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Downtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- The healthcare scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 10 years. Moved from Nashville for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is tough - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Homeless population growing downtown. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 9 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
