Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from San Francisco and Household incomes average around $192,821 in Victoria. Poverty rate is 0.7%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $572,800, which is pretty steep. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Let me know your thoughts. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 58, moved here 14 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The cost of living situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
