Honest thoughts on life in Victoria

Hello, I work in manufacturing and Crime rate is something to consider -Victoria sits at 513.5 per 100K. The median home value here is around $193,200, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $193,200 on average. Poverty rate is 14.7%, which is around average. With a population of 65,514, Victoria is a smaller city. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Low crime in most areas

Cons:
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Poor road conditions
- Far from major airports
Let me know your thoughts. Appreciate any input. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a nurse and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 49, moved here 5 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Eastside and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The public transit situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to San Diego it's excellent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
