Hey, Rent is about $1,568/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $70,663 in Victorville. The median home value here is around $342,500, which seems about average. The unemployment rate is 6.6%, which is concerning. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Is this normal for Victorville? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 13 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been here 6 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to New York it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Nashville about 2 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Downtown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The housing market scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely pretty good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (North) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
