Is it worth buying in Victorville?

Hey folks, Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 61°F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 6.6%, which is concerning. It's a a mid-size city city with about 136K people. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Should I be concerned? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely challenging and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (North) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 45, moved here 4 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Downtown and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The job market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Minneapolis about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 11 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 8 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Property taxes are high
3. The dating scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The food scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Westside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The safety scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..
